Drakopoulos participated in the InfraAI Global Summit 2026, a leading forum that explores the intersection of AI infrastructure and investment, held in Athens from 30 March to 1 April.

Our partner, Petros Fragkiskos chaired the panel “Financing strategies for AI cloud build outs: Data Centres, GPUs and Software”, leading a dynamic discussion on the evolving financing landscape of AI infrastructure. He was joined by a panel of distinguished speakers, including Natalia Tsitoura, Partner at Apollo Global Management, Tom McDonell, Associate Director at Macquarie Group,  Giannis Papadopoulos, Founding Partner at EOS Global Investors, and Dr. Haris Lambropoulos, President at HDBI.

The panel explored key challenges such as capital intensity, risk allocation, and investment models, offering valuable insights into how data centers, GPUs and software ecosystems are shaping the future of AI-driven growth. The discussion focused on financing strategies for AI cloud build-outs, highlighting how these investments differ materially from traditional cloud infrastructure due to rapid technological obsolescence, significant GPU dependence and unpredictable demand.

The panel examined whether conventional project finance frameworks remain adequate, or a new approach is required, particularly when underwriting neoclouds, where GPUaaS contracts, rather than balance sheets, determine creditworthiness. The conversation also addressed the growing role of sovereign and public capital, the increasing importance of geography amid energy and regulatory constraints, and the strategic considerations of build, lease and partnership models. Finally, the panel explored evolving return expectations, the potential risk of overcapacity and the key factors likely to shape the long-term resilience of AI infrastructure investments.

As one of the region’s leading law firms in advising on M&A, tech financing and tech regulation including AI governance, data regulation and cybersecurity, Drakopoulos remains at the forefront of the evolving AI ecosystem. The firm supports organisations in navigating the legal and strategic challenges of AI infrastructure, investment and scalability, transforming regulatory complexity into a competitive advantage.
